[Athi River: August 5, 2025] During a chapel service held at the Main Campus Athi River, the Daystar University Alumni Association, led by the Global Board Chair, Dr. Anthony Mwaniki Mburu, Director Alumni Association Dr. Leah Komen, Board members: Mr. Maurice Kioko and Ms. Matilda Wanja, flanked by Daystar Alumni Home Chapter, presented some 240 bags of cement to the Vice Chancellor, for the construction of a 1000-seater chapel currently underway at the Main Campus Athi River.
Dr. Mwaniki Mburu described the day as a “delightful homecoming, saying the alumni-led scholarship fund dedicated to supporting needy students was a reminder of the broader impact alumni continue to make on their Daystar Alma Mater.
In her remarks, Dr. Komen emphasized the importance of alumni involvement in chapel project and other University’s ongoing initiatives. Dr. Komen revealed that Alumni have committed to supporting the ongoing chapel project by raising 1,000 bags of cement.
Mr. Maurice Kioko, Senior Assistant Registrar and member of the Alumni Board, acknowledged the alumni who have so far donated 240 bags of cement in the last one month.
Mr. Kioko revealed that alumni and friends of Daystar University have committed to donating 240 bags of cement monthly going forward. He also acknowledged the 8-member committee for working tirelessly to reach out to the Alumni to raise the 1000 bags of cement. Members of the committee are:

As he received the donation, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro, commended the alumni for their significant role in laying what he called “the foundation of the century.” He made a heartfelt appeal to faculty, staff, and all stakeholders to support the ongoing chapel construction project.
“This is a declaration of faith. The alumni have stepped forward with willing hearts. The stone has been rolled away, the vision is alive, and we appeal to all to support this sacred initiative,” said Prof. Ayiro.
The VC further also emphasized that the chapel initiative is not just about cement and other building materials, but about building a spiritual home that future generations will draw strength from.
“With great gratitude, I receive these bags of cement, not just as material, but as a symbol of faith and commitment to a shared vision,” said the Vice Chancellor as he received the cement.
