New Database Access – Scopus

We are pleased to announce that the library now provides access to Scopus (Elsevier) which is one of the world’s largest abstract and citation databases of peer reviewed literature. Scopus supports discovery, evaluation, and benchmarking across disciplines and is especially valuable for evidence synthesis workflows such as systematic literature reviews (SLR) and meta analysis.

Key Features:

  • Comprehensive coverage of journals, books, and conference proceedings across sciences, social sciences, arts & humanities.
  • Powerful search with filters (keywords, subject area, affiliation, funding sponsor, document type, open access, year).
  • Citation tracking and analytics (cited by counts, h index, author and institution profiles).
  • Related records discovery using references and citations to expand or narrow a search set.
  • Export results to reference managers and analysis tools (RIS, BibTeX, CSV).
  • Author disambiguation and affiliation matching to reliably find researchers and institutions.

Why Scopus Matters for Daystar University

For Researchers & Postgraduates:

  • Build comprehensive, reproducible search strategies for PRISMA aligned SLRs.
  • Trace research influence via forward & backward citation chasing for gap analysis.
  • Identify leading journals, authors, and institutions for collaboration and publishing targets.
  • Export clean CSVs for screening/deduplication in tools like EndNote, Zotero, or Rayyan.

For Students:

  • Find high‑quality, peer reviewed sources for assignments, theses, and capstone projects.
  • Use citation counts and journal metrics to prioritize influential literature.
  • Stay current with topic alerts and saved searches.

For Staff & Supervisors:

  • Monitor departmental research output and impact through author/affiliation profiles.
  • Support course design with up to date readings and topic maps.
  • Track emerging themes for grant applications and strategic planning.

Systematic Literature Review & Meta Analysis Workflow Support

  • Advanced filtering enables precise inclusion/exclusion at the database stage (year ranges, methodologies, keywords).
  • Citation analytics accelerates study selection by surfacing seminal and highly cited articles.
  • Export to RIS/BibTeX/CSV for deduplication and screening; capture metadata needed for PRISMA flow diagrams.
  • Track updates with alerts to capture new studies for living reviews or sensitivity analyses.

Access Information

• Access via MyLOFT with your Daystar email credentials.
• On campus: instant access; Off campus: sign in through MyLOFT remote access.
• If you need help with search strategies, alerts, or exports, contact the library.
